Your questions about wills in Belgium
How much does an online will cost?
There are three ways to make a will: by going to a notary, by writing it yourself, or by using the Legacio service. At the notary's office, it will generally cost you between 250 and €400. If you wish to draw up a holographic will yourself, it is free of charge, but it is necessary to respect certain strict rules, under pain of nullity or undesired legal consequences. At Legacio, we propose to prepare your will online for €90 all inclusive. Your will is checked by a specialist lawyer. We also offer you the possibility of registering your will with a notary, in complete security, for €50.
How to make a will without a notary?
It is perfectly possible to prepare your will yourself, without going to a notary. At Legacio, we help Belgians to write their wills from the comfort of their living room, at half the price of a notary. A will which is drawn up by oneself is called a "holographic will" and must comply with certain conditions regarding form and content.
What is a "holographic" will ?
A holographic will is the most common form of will: the one written directly by the "testator" himself. This type of will combines 3 advantages: simplicity, flexibility (it can be revoked or modified easily) and price. A holographic will can be drawn up anywhere, at any time and by anyone. It can also be registered in the central register of wills. At Legacio, we propose to prepare and draw up your holographic will on line, at a fixed price of 79.90€.
Is a holographic will legal ?
Drafting a holographic will without a notary is 100% legal. However, certain conditions must be observed in order to guarantee its validity. In order to be valid, a "holographic will" must meet three formal conditions: it must be entirely written in the testator's handwriting (it cannot be typed), it must be dated and it must be signed by the testator (you cannot write a will for another person).
Where to keep your will?
A holographic will can be kept wherever the testator wishes. However, the greatest disadvantage of a holographic will is the risk of it being lost or destroyed. Faced with this risk, several options exist. The first consists of giving a copy of your will to the people you wish to benefit and/or to a trusted person. At Legacio, we also offer our clients the possibility of registering their will with a partner civil law notary, so that it can be kept in the central register of wills.
Why use Legacio?
The Legacio online will is the simplest and fastest way to prepare your will, without having to go anywhere, from the comfort of your living room. We combine the advantages of a notary (expert assistance + assurance that your wishes will be respected), for a price 2 to 3 times lower.
